Welcome to Landon School Harmondsworth

Landon School Harmondsworth is an independent specialist day school for children and young people aged 5 to 18 with autism and severe learning difficulties. We opened in October 2024 and were rated Outstanding by Ofsted at our first standard inspection in July 2025, nine months later.

We believe every child has the potential to grow, achieve and lead a fulfilling life. Success looks different for each learner. For one pupil it is a new way to ask for help; for another it is travelling independently or completing an accredited course. We recognise and celebrate all of it.

Safe. Happy. Learning.

Our promise to every pupil is three words long, and the order matters. A child who does not feel safe cannot be happy, and a child who is not settled cannot learn. We get safety and wellbeing right first, and build learning on that foundation.

What makes Landon different

A school built for one group of learners

We specialise in autism and severe learning difficulties, and nothing else. Our classrooms, our staffing, our curriculum and our therapy are all designed around how our pupils communicate, regulate and learn, rather than adapted from a model built for someone else.

One adult for every two pupils

Our standard staffing ratio is one adult to every two pupils. That means every child is known well, routines are consistent, and support is there at the moment it is needed.

One school from 5 to 18

We teach pupils across Primary, Secondary and Post-16, so a child who joins us at 5 can stay until 18. For many of our pupils, avoiding a change of school at 11 or 16 is one of the most important things we can offer: the people, places and routines they rely on stay the same while they grow.

Expertise that keeps developing

Our ambition is to be a centre of excellent practice in autism and severe learning difficulties. Teaching is reviewed every term, and staff at every level are supported to train, reflect and improve, so that pupils benefit from the best specialist practice available.

Learning, therapy and preparing for adulthood

Learning matched to each child

Every pupil follows one of three curriculum pathways, Explore, Semi-Formal or Formal, informed by the Equals curriculum and the SCERTS framework. Pathways are chosen by how a child learns, not by their age, and are reviewed regularly so pupils can move between them as they develop. Progress is measured against each child's own starting point. Read more on our Pathways page.

Therapy as part of every day

Our in-house therapy team works in classrooms, not only in therapy rooms. Speech and language and occupational therapy strategies are used by every adult throughout the day, with small-group and individual sessions for pupils who need more. Read more on our Therapy page.

Preparing for adulthood from the first day

We want every young person to leave Landon as independent as possible: able to make choices, communicate what they need, and take part in their community. That work starts in Primary, not at 16, and in Post-16 it becomes the heart of the curriculum. Read more on our Preparing for Adulthood page.

Working with families, and next steps

Home and school together

The most significant progress happens when home and school work as one. Each family's first point of contact is their child's class teacher, and our therapists run termly coffee mornings, parent training sessions and phone clinics so that the strategies used at school can be used at home too. We also work closely with local authorities, health professionals and, as pupils get older, adult services.

Growing, with the same promise

Landon is a young school and it is growing, but our ambition has not changed: a school where every child is safe, happy and learning, and where potential is recognised whatever the starting point.
